  • Why it's OK to be Tacky on Xanga

I know it's tacky to take pictures of yourself.

Especially if it's one of those "hold the camera over your head and look up at it" pics:

    DSC02094

Of one of those, hold it out in front of you so you're always in the bottom corner of the photo pictures:

    DSC02074

And it's even tackier to photoshop pictures of yourself and put them on the internet, like this:

    DSC02079

But some of us do it anyway because:

    a) we're bored and know that pictures of ourself are at least a little more interesting than pictures of veggies.

    DSC02077

    b) we know that pictures of ourselves are more interesting than pictures of fruit.

    DSC02118

    c) we know that you'd rather look at pics of people than pictures of leaves and bugs.

    DSC01864DSC01884

    d) And it's practically a crime to post pictures of flowers.  I mean, one picture of a pretty flower is okay...but 10 of the same flower?

    DSC02124DSC02101 DSC02091DSC02082

And taking a picture of the flower with yourself also in the picutre does not necessarily add bonus creativity points to the photo:

    DSC02092

    e) You can only look at so many pictures of one's pet before that gets old:

    DSC02116

    f) Finding a mushroom might be a cool discovery, but pictures of that discovery aren't so interesting.

    DSC02086

    g) Our friends are not around and it is not okay to take pictures of strangers.  When you do that, they grab your camera, throw it at your head, trip you with your tripod, and strangle you with the camera cord.  it's not a pretty sight.

    DSC02131

So that is the science and the reason why people, such as myself, take pictures of ourself when we get bored and need something to do.  Don't whack it!

    July Vacation

Matthew and I talked about my vacation.

He said, "Go to Traverse City without me."

But what fun is that...to go alone?  My sisters are busy in Africa and with boyfriends.  My friends are busy or have moved away.

So I stayed in Portland.  I still might go up to the Cherry Festival later the week...

...but for now I'm having fun hiking around Portland, unveiling beauty.

    And taking pictures of it.

Have you seen a catapillar this cool yet this year?

Have you seen cool wildflowers like this yet this year?

What about bugs playing leapfrog...seen any of them?

I even found some wild berries!

He said, "What is this?  A puppy love photo shoot?"  And so it was.

  • Do You Know Your Name?

    ...I'm serious!

A real man knows who he is.

    REALLY knows.

Remember your first year of band camp - where you were put through an initiation.  Mine involved putting on a swimsuit, having other members of the band write all over my body in marker, then having the drum major march us all into the lake.  We came out covered in colorful, runny marker.  We also came out initiated.  We now knew we were truly a part of marching band!

Boys also go through an initiation process.  But their initiation isn't as easy as marching and markers.  They have to know their roots, face a series of trials that test them, take a journey, and have faced an enemy before they can become a man.  Only then can a boy truly know who he is: and that he is a man!

For example, Maximus from the movie Gladiator was a real man.  Let me tell you the story:

Emperor Marcus Aurelius wanted Roman Army General Maximus to be his successor.  But Marcus had his own son, Commodus, who felt he was the rightful heir.  So Commodus got mad and killed his father; the Emperor.  He then took Maximus' wife and son and sentenced them, along with Maximus, to execution.  Maximus escaped, but not soon enough to save his wife and son.

Maximus then gets sold as a slave and turned into a Gladiator.  As a Gladiator, Maximus displayed remarkable courage, hiding his identity behind his helmet.

Upon winning yet another battle Commodus said to him, "Your fame is well deserved Spaniard.  I don't belive there's been a gladiator that has matched you…why doesn't the hero reveal himself and tell us all your real name?"

    Maximus is silent.

"You do have a name" Commodus asked.

"My name is gladiator" says Maximus as he turns his back and walks away.

"How dare you show your back to me slave!" Shouts Commodus.  "You will remove your helmet and tell me your name."

Maximus slowly lifts his helmet and turns to his enemy.  "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridious.  Commander of the Armies of the North.  General of the Felix Legions.  Loyal servant to the true Emperor, Marcus Aurelious.  Father to a murdered son.  Husband to a murdered wife.  And I will have my vengeance in this life or in the next."

His answer builds like a mighty wave.  He knows his name and it is not "mama's boy" or "sissy" or "fatty" or "loser."

A real man know s who he is.  He doesn't just know it in his head; he knows it deep down in his soul.

    Do you know your name?

  • Proof the Girls are better at Fishing than Guys

    Fishtales Fishing Trip

There were 3 of us and 3 of them.  Guys and girls, that is.

    GIRLS:  Christina, Neenah, Riley

    GUYS: Matthew, Jeremy, Owen

    DSC02145

We decided to go boating and have a little competition.  Who can catch the most fish...the guys or the girls.

    DSC02133DSC02134

Now, the guys have a couple advantages over the girls.

There were 2 adult guys and 1 kid.

There was only 1 adult girl and 2 kids.

    DSC02135

Secondly, guys are stronger, so they can cast better and pull the fish into the boat better.  Ok...so maybe that's a stretch.

But guys are able to worm their own hooks and remove their own fish while we girls have to wait for them to do those things for us.

    DSC02143

    Nonetheless, we had a tournament.

    Guess who won.

    DSC02137

    Girls: 5 fish

Guys: 1 fish that got away

(we let them count that one anyway because it broke the line)

    DSC02140DSC02141

They claim they hooked a few HUGE fish, but they got away.  What we girls say to that is "FISHTALES!"

    DSC02147

After fishing, we took a couple trips around the lake...Jordan Lake.

    DSC02149DSC02150 DSC02151 DSC02153 DSC02154

We ended the day back at Jeremy and Tina's house for a campfire, berry picking, trampoline jumping, gardening, frog catching, and we even "installed" a couple big tires in the ground for the kids to play on.

#82, the tracor is just awesome and cute. After all of our sharing in your wedding plans ;it just seems so YOU/ Of course, there are the more traditional choices. Even matches/ the red theme? Your wedding, your decision.
  • alexisdaughter
tiara are beautiful, 3 @15 are unique with the flowers stick wit the same color as the dress, but its your wedding and your choice. Tiara should compliment the beautiful gown not distract fom it. Good Luck? just love Xanga, you are all so great.

no. 2. I'd think the last thing you'd want on a honeymoon is another cabin close by with a family of five kids, etc. A beautiful view of the mountains would be nice. Who's going to watch tv on a honeymoon? Have fun whereever you decide to go/
  • alexisdaughter
A lot depends on the people and personalities involved. This was the way it was for centuries and the human race and families are still here. you can keep your independence under the same roof. Good luck whatever you decide.

Decorations are beautiful .. I've gotten lovely things at hobby Lobby over the years to decorate for children's plays for church. And they last and can be reused for anniversaries and special occasions. just beautiful/
